Plan your holidays during ART Basel

Most hotels are completely booked out during the ART Basel exhibition. There are, however, many exhibiting companies who prefer a personal home to which they can escape during their free time from the hustle and bustle of the exhibition.

Why not take advantage of the opportunity which could arise for you from this – plan a holiday so that you can sub-let your apartment during the ART Basel. In this way, you can pay a part of the cost of your holiday from the income of the rent.

Free of charge and non-binding for you

Advertise your apartment with us for free. In addition, we do not retain customers – you are free to rent out your apartment privately or through other channels.

Fair Play with prices

You can benefit of the scarceness of accommodation during ART Basel in order to fulfil your holiday dreams, but please do not take advantage of the situation. A fair renting price offers you both - to increase your holiday budget and to have satisfied guests at the same time.

The UMS Pricing system aims to create a solid price/performance ratio for all participants and to adhere to the regulations of the Swiss rental law.

Beware of profit-seeking rents

As a prefered parter for apartments for ART Basel, we attach great importance to a fair rent and even turn down the occasional deal in honour of that commitment. We do this not only out of an obligation to our seekers, but also to protect you as a provider.
If you sub-let your apartment at a profit, your landlord can demand the entire profit – even retroactively. One tenant was ordered by the federal court to pay his landlord CHF 189,032 (BGE 4A_594/2012).
If you make a profit from the rent you charge – as the property owner or with the landlord’s approval – or provide substantial services (e.g. cleaning, breakfast, etc.) for a fee, you must declare the earnings as additional income on your tax return.

Do I have to pay a city tax?

Yes, sub-tenants who are not registered with the municipality must pay a city tax (as the tourist tax is called in Basel). But this is quite easy and inexpensive (CHF 4.- per guest and day).

More information about the guest tax is available here.
